What is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift, or thighplasty, is a surgical procedure whereby the underlying fat and skin are reduced and reshaped.
The aim is to contour the thighs and create a more desirable shape. The procedure also tightens the skin, rejuvenating the appearance of the treated area.
Who is suitable for thigh lift surgery?
Thigh lift surgery is suitable for those with sagging, excess skin and fat around the inner thigh area.
This draping effect is usually a result of extreme weight loss or the ageing process.
In order to get the best results and sustain them, patients are advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
What happens during and after the procedure?
The thigh lift procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and may require an overnight stay in hospital.
An incision is made along the inner thigh – the size of which varies from person to person – before the surgeon removes the excess fat and skin from the area. The wound is then closed with dissolvable stitches.
At the 6-week mark, you will have a follow-up appointment with your plastic surgeon, who will check the wound to ensure you are healing correctly.
All patients receive a tailored aftercare package and have 24-hour access to our team of specialists, who are on hand to answer any questions you may have.
What types of incisions are made?
The incision depends on the type of surgery. Thigh lift includes a transverse incision along the groin crease while thigh lift/reduction includes the same transverse incision and a vertical incision made along the inner thigh (T-shaped incision). The length of the cut varies from person to person. The more fat and skin there is to be removed, the longer the incision is.
Is there any downtime after thigh reduction surgery?
We ask that patients undergoing a thigh lift procedure take 2-3 weeks off work and rest up.
Overall, it takes around 6 weeks to make a full recovery after surgery.
We will then see you for a follow-up appointment to make sure everything is okay.
Will I have scars?
You will have visible scars directly after the procedure, but they will mature and fade over time.
Results vary from person to person, with some scars taking longer to heal than others.
Risks & possible side effects in thigh lift surgery
After thigh lift surgery, it is normal to expect some bruising, but other risks can include infection, bleeding, haematoma, pain, skin loss, unevenness, and wide, lumpy, red or visible scars.
*Individual Results May Vary.
