Male Breast Reduction (Gynaecomastia)

Reduces excess breast tissue in men for a firmer chest

Gynaecomastia is a medical term meaning male breast enlargement. In the majority of cases, there is no known cause, and although rarely talked about, it is a common condition.

For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, breast-reduction surgery can be helpful. The procedure removes tissue from the breasts and, in extreme cases, excess skin.

Regain your natural shape and confidence with a male breast reduction at ASET Hospital.

With decades of experience in gynecomastia procedures, our highly skilled surgeons are on hand to work with you to achieve naturally sculpted and toned skin with an increased volume or shape.

Is Male Breast Reduction the Right Choice?

Ideal candidates for male breast reduction are males with normal/average weight who have enlarged breasts and feel self-conscious about the appearance of their breasts.

The Breast Reduction Procedure

Male breast reduction surgery is performed under general anaesthesia, or in some cases, under local anaesthesia with or without sedation.

The breast is made up of two main components: glandular tissue (firm and dense) and fatty tissue (soft). The ratio of glandular to fatty tissue in any breast varies from individual to individual, and in gynaecomastia, there may be an excess of both.

If there is predominantly a diffuse fatty enlargement of the breast, liposuction is the usual treatment. If excess glandular tissue is the primary cause of breast enlargement, it may need to be cut out with a scalpel. This will leave a scar, usually around the nipple edge.

This excision can be performed alone or in conjunction with liposuction. Major reductions that involve the removal of a significant amount of tissue and skin may require larger incisions that result in more obvious scars.

Risks

There are some possible risks, as with all surgery, which will be explained to you at the time of your consultation. This is an opportunity to discuss your treatment and allow your consultant to ascertain your expectations and discuss the results that can be achieved.

In order for you to make an informed choice, it is vital that you understand all aspects of the procedure and all possible outcomes.

Post-Procedure Aftercare

Your well-being is our priority, and ASET Hospital will provide a comprehensive and personalised aftercare package, which is included in your treatment.

Following male breast reduction surgery, you may need to wear a support garment. Your dressings will be removed approximately 7-10 days after your surgery.

The surgeon who performed your surgery will see you after 6 weeks for a follow-up assessment. You must attend all necessary post-operative appointments.

It is recommended that you take two to three weeks off work and avoid physical exercise for six weeks.
