At ASET Hospital, we offer advanced face lift surgery to rejuvenate and refresh your appearance by addressing signs of ageing.
Our skilled surgeons use the latest techniques to deliver natural-looking results, reducing sagging skin and wrinkles to restore a more youthful contour to the face and neck areas.
What is Face and Neck Lift Surgery?
Face and neck lift surgery, also known as rhytidectomy, is designed to reverse the effects of ageing by tightening the skin and underlying muscles and removing or repositioning excess fat.
This procedure can significantly improve major signs of ageing, such as deep creases along the nose extending to the jowls, loss of muscle tone, and loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jawline.
Ideal Candidates for Face and Neck Lift Surgery
The best candidates for face and neck lift surgery are individuals who:
- Are experiencing sagging skin, deep wrinkles, and other signs of ageing in the face and neck.
- Ageing means that soft tissue volume is lost from the face. Face lift may include temporary fillers or fat transfer to replace that volume. Surgical plans and options would be discussed in details with you at the consultation stage.
- Are in good overall health, do not smoke, and have realistic expectations about the outcomes.
Procedure Details
Face and neck lift surgery at ASET Hospital is typically performed under general anaesthesia and involves the following steps:
- Incisions: Incisions usually begin in the hairline at the temples, continue around the ear, and end along the hairline behind the ear. Additional incisions may be made under the chin if the neck needs to be included in the lift.
- Tightening and Repositioning: Once the incisions are made, the skin is lifted, and the underlying tissues are tightened. Excess fat may be sculpted or redistributed from the face, jowls, and neck.
- Trimming and Closing: After the muscles and tissues are tightened, the skin is draped over the new contours, and excess skin is trimmed away. The incisions are then closed with sutures or skin adhesives.
Postoperative Care and Recovery
Recovery from face and neck lift surgery varies from patient to patient, but generally includes:
Initial Healing
Following surgery, it is advisable to keep your head elevated for at least a week (2 days for mini facelift).
Scars can get wet within 48 hours but do not rub the wounds. Most bruising disappears in a couple of weeks but residual swelling may last for months.
Your appearance is generally presentable in 2 to 4 weeks but healing continues for up to a year.
Recovery Period
Most patients experience some bruising and swelling for the first two weeks. Instructions for resting and sleeping positions to reduce swelling will be provided.
Avoid excessive neck turning movements and movements that give a feeling of pulling or tightness along the suture line for the first month.
Some sutures (if used) will be removed after 7 days and your wound checked. The remaining sutures will be removed 10 days to 2 weeks later.
Follow-Up Visits
The surgeon who performed your surgery will see you after six weeks for a follow-up assessment and as often as required until you are fully recovered.
It is vital that you attend all necessary post-operative appointments. You may need to take two to three weeks off work.
Risks and Considerations
Individuals vary greatly in their physical reactions and healing abilities and so it is important to consider the potential risks of this surgery before making a decision.
Potential risks include bleeding, asymmetry, injury to the nerves that control facial muscles (usually temporary but can last), sensation loss around the ears, infection, adverse reactions to the anaesthesia and in rare cases DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and PE (Pulmonary Embolism).
Potential risks for smokers include poor healing of the skin or unexpected scars.
