Eye Lid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Enhances eyelids by removing excess skin and fat

At ASET Hospital, we specialise in eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty. This procedure is designed to improve the appearance of the eyelids by removing excess skin, eliminating bags under the eyes, and restoring a youthful contour to the eye region.

Our experienced surgeons are committed to delivering natural-looking results that rejuvenate the face and enhance overall facial aesthetics.

Eyelid Surgery at ASET Hospital

Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. This procedure is effective for correcting:

  • Sagging or loose skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid
  • Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

Ideal Candidates for Eyelid Surgery

The best candidates for eyelid surgery are individuals who:

  • Are in good health and do not have medical conditions that would impair healing
  • Have realistic goals for the improvement of the upper and/or lower eyelids
  • Do not smoke, as smoking can significantly delay the healing process
  • Are bothered by signs of ageing around the eyes or have eyelid conditions that impair vision

Procedure Details

Eyelid surgery at ASET Hospital is typically performed under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia +/- sedation, allowing patients to remain comfortable throughout the procedure. The surgery involves the following steps:

Incisions

For upper eyelid surgery, incisions are made in the natural crease of the eyelid. For lower eyelid surgery, incisions are typically made just below the lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach).

Removal or Redistribution of Fat and Excess Skin

Excess skin and fat are removed or redistributed to eliminate puffiness and drooping.

Tightening

Muscles and tissues may be tightened to enhance the eyelid’s appearance further.

Closure

Incisions are closed with sutures or skin glue. Sutures are generally removed within one week after the surgery.

Postoperative Care and Recovery

Following eyelid surgery, patients may experience swelling, bruising, irritation, or dry eyes. These are normal symptoms and typically subside within several weeks. Recovery guidelines include:

  • Initial Care: Cold compresses and lubricating eye drops may be recommended to aid the healing process and alleviate discomfort.
  • Activity Restrictions: Patients should avoid strenuous activities and wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from sun and wind.
  • Follow-up Visits: Essential for monitoring the healing process and for removing sutures if they are not self-dissolving.

Risks and Considerations

While eyelid surgery is generally safe, it does carry some risks, such as infection, reaction to anaesthesia, scarring, and temporary changes in vision.

At ASET Hospital, our surgical team takes all necessary precautions to minimise these risks.
